    • A first draft of tests will be due by Saturday, December 5th, 2020.
    • Teams may be asked to help proctor tests if there are not enough available volunteers.
    • If interested, please email clarkscioly@gmail.com with your credentials and what you are interested in helping with.
  • For Scilympiad Event Supervisor Sign Up:
    • If you are only writing sign up as Event Supervisor
    • If you are only grading sign up as Assistant Event Supervisor
    • If you are both writing and grading sign up as Fully Responsible.
  • Test Specifications
    • We would strongly prefer if test writers followed a few tips:
      • Please adhere to state rules.
      • Avoid too many multiple choice questions that can be easily looked up online (free response or any form of short answer questions are preferable).
      • Write long tests (preferably with a maximum score of over 100 points).
        • This does not mean that tests must have over 100 questions
      • If you plan to use images from the internet, place a color filter over the images to prevent image searching.
        • This does not apply to any of the specimens from the events requiring identification (Astronomy, Fossils, Ornithology, Water Quality).
Events
  • We will hold 17 Division C events allowed in the MiniSO format by NSO, following state-level rules.
    • Event List
  • Any tests will be administered according to the PST time zone synchronously.
  • Any team in the country can compete, regardless of time zone.
  • Events will be ran in 55 minute blocks that correlate to the National Event Schedule.
  • Team Numbers were released December 1st, 2020.
    • Event Schedule
  • Students are allowed to use online versions of their binders and cheat sheets.
    • For events allowing for one cheat sheet per team, partners may each have a copy of the same cheat sheet or each have a different cheat sheet, as per NSO recommendations.
    • For events allowing one cheat sheet per individual, the same applies; competitors are not allowed to have their own cheat sheet and their partners cheat sheet (if they are different).
  • Event Specific Updates:
    • There will be no hands-on build or lab portion for any event. This includes the prebuild portion for Protein Modeling.
    • The first question to the Codebusters test will be a timed bonus. Once students have correctly answered the first question, make sure that they do not click on the question again. We will be tracking student activity within the tab for this event in order to score the timed bonus using their latest activity on that question.
    • Protein Modeling will have a Jmol section, and competitors in that event should download a working copy of Jmol before the competition. Competitors using Chromebooks to compete can use Jmol through this link.
Testing
  • Partners will be able to collaborate in real time while taking the exam on Scilympiad.
  • Partners are encouraged to work together through other virtual platforms of their choice (Ex. phone call, video call, text, etc.)
    • Partners are not encouraged to gather in-person due to social distancing concerns.
  • Scilympiad will typically autosave student answers. For free-response and short-answer questions, we strongly recommend that only one partner types within the text box. If both partners work on the same question at once, their answers will be overridden.
  • Showing work for free-response questions will be up to the event supervisor for each event.
  • We also recommend that partners record their answers on a separate document in the event that Scilympiad does not autosave and sync answers. Note that as a security feature, Scilympiad does not allow any copying or pasting of answers. Please send this form out to competitors, so if they have an issue, their answers may still be accounted for. This form must be submitted within 5 minutes after the end of their time block. We are only allowing image and pdf submissions.
Awards Ceremony
  • The award ceremony, via livestream, will be tentatively held on December 20, 2020 at 5:00 PM PST via YouTube Livestream.
  • Medals will be given to the top 5 teams and trophies will be given to the top 5 schools.
  • Medals and trophies will be mailed to each school after the tournament.
